When you order, you can choose what size group you want to join - for the most personal and more one-on-one experience, pick the VIP group option with a maximum of 8 adults per group. There is also the option to join with a small group of 16 adults maximum or the regular option with 40 adults max.
Upon meeting your guide just outside your Naples cruise terminal, you will have a short walk towards Piazza Municipio Square, where you will have a few minutes to take some pictures. Then, your excursion starts with a subway ride to Piazza Dante where you will begin your walking tour, led by an experienced English-speaking guide, through Spaccanapoli, the straight and narrow main street that traverses the historic center of Naples. Stops at Piazza del Gesu and Piazza San Domenico Maggiore will provide great photo opportunities and a glimpse back in time. Del Gesu is decorated with some of the most overdone and very random mix of monuments including the Guglia della Immacolata. It is a type of rococo obelisk that is dripping with frills. San Domenico Maggiore is named for the church bearing the same name and the spire dedicated to the saint. This is a wonderful place to take a seat and people-watch! It has numerous cafes and is a tourist mecca.
Walking through San Gregorio Armeno takes you into the heart of Neapolitan Christmas, where skilled artists put their twist on the creation of Nativity scenes. Reaching the entrance to the Roman Underground, your ticket will provide time to explore the ruins. Located beneath Naples' busy streets lies an intricate maze of tunnels, caves, and sights that date back 2400 years, spanning approximately 120 feet (40 meters) underground! From Napoleon to WWII, the Underground, or "Sotterranea" has seen a lot of history. Down the 143 steps, you will find the ancient Greek-Roman aqua-duct built in the 4th century AD. You can also see the air raid shelters that were utilized in the war. This is truly off the beaten path!
Next, a visit to the Naples Cathedral, the main church of Naples and the seat of the Archbishop of Naples, combines beauty and history while offering the chance to see the oldest baptistery in the Western world. After the visit, you will have free time and lunch on your own before returning to the subway. In about an hour, you will regroup for the last leg of the tour which includes the monumental areas. While strolling, you'll come across Maschio Angioino Castle, a medieval fortress. The Galleria Umberto I is a public shopping gallery located right across from the Royal Theater San Carlo, which is connected to the Royal Palace. Another important landmark in Naples is the ancient Via Toledo, a street that leads to Piazza Plebiscito, one of the largest public squares in the city.
After your excursion, you may choose to explore further at your own expense or return to your Naples cruise terminal.
Note: This excursion is NOT private, the price breakdown depends on the group size you want to join. Size may vary slightly as there is a maximum of adults per group; children may be added.
