Your friendly, English-speaking snorkel excursion staff will greet you outside your Roatan cruise terminal (Coxen Hole and Port of Roatan Mahogany Bay) and get you on your way for your Roatan Snorkel and Mayan Princess Resort Cruise Excursion. The drive to the Dive and Snorkel Center is a short 20-minute journey from the pier at the city center (Coxen Hole) and about 30 minutes from the pier at Mahogany Bay (Round trip is about 1 hour).
After a brief orientation at the Dive Center, you will be introduced to your snorkel guide and head out to one of the snorkel boats. The snorkel boats are purpose-built for the Caribbean reef and can hold up to 6 or 25 snorkelers. On board, the team will offer assistance with equipment if requested and provide a thorough briefing on the snorkel sites.
The maximum group size for each snorkel adventure is 10 snorkelers to one certified PADI Divemaster/Instructor, so no need to worry about overcrowding in the water. The travel time to reach the snorkel sites by boat will be no more than 10 minutes, as the Barrier Reef is very close to the shore.
The snorkeling will take place on the largest barrier reef system in the Northern Hemisphere. In this particular area of the reef system, you will be snorkeling in extremely healthy and pristine conditions. The snorkel sites are known for their abundance of beautiful corals and extraordinary reef formations, creating astonishing "swim-throughs", and ledges.
Common marine life on the reef includes turtles, lobsters, stingrays, eels, king crabs, and barracuda, as well as a variety of tropical reef fish such as damsels, butterfly fish, porkfish, parrot fish, and schools of creole wrasse and blue tangs. Lion Fish have also invaded the Caribbean in recent years, so have your cameras ready to take photos of these amazing colorful predators as they proudly display their plumes. (The snorkeling is approximately 3 hours).
After the spectacular snorkeling part of this shore excursion in Roatan, you will also have access to the gorgeous 5-Star Mayan Princess Beach Resort for a beach break. You may use the lounge chairs, pool, beach area, restroom, showers, etc. Food and beverages are not included but may be purchased on-site.
The transportation will have you back at the pier after your 4-hour adventure! Please note you can return to your ship at any time at your own expense.
All of these Roatan snorkel shore excursion boats are equipped with first aid, oxygen units, life vests, marine radios, and comfortable ladders for getting in and out of the water. All our Roatan snorkel shore excursions are guided by a fully certified PADI divemaster or instructor. There is a suggested $5.00 USD per person donation for the Marine Park.
