A thunderous boom roars through Pompeii's crowded marketplace. The ground shakes violently, throwing midday shoppers off balance and toppling fish and meat market stalls. People scream and point toward Mount Vesuvius, a massive volcano that rises above them.

Explore two different UNESCO sites on this premium and private tour of the ancient city of Pompeii and surrounding areas. You will meet your English-speaking driver outside your Naples cruise pier who will transport you to the most visited archaeological site in the world. Here, you will walk the streets that were buried by lava and ash two centuries ago.

Your driver will help you skip the line to pay the entrance fee upon arrival for your two-hour stop (entrance fee not included). You will visit the ruins of a city that was buried under up to 20 feet of ash and pumice when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD. The site was lost until it was uncovered at the turn of the 17th century, and further discoveries were made in the 18th century.

The artifacts were remarkably well preserved due to a lack of water and moisture below the city, allowing archaeologists to learn about the incomparable city's life before the eruption. You will get to wander the ruins at your own pace or you may add a walking tour of the ruins with your English-speaking knowledgeable local guide.

Today, excavations are no longer permitted because of a moratorium imposed to preserve what remains. Several factors have combined to increase the rate of deterioration, including weather, animals, and tourism. Despite restricted access to several buildings, you will have more than enough to see in your time at the ruins. 

After your time in the lost city, you will continue down the famous Amalfi coast, where you will stroll through the narrow market streets of the neighboring towns, Sorrento and Positano, enjoying the flavors and the colors of the products of our region. You will have time to explore both. You will find magnificent Italian ceramics, clothes, and many more! Or you can enjoy lunch facing the coast. Please remember that meals, gratuities, and optional activities are at your expense.

Following your drive back to Naples, you will be returned to your Naples cruise pier, where you may continue to explore at your leisure and own expense.

Excursion Notes

• Excursion prices shown are quoted/displayed in US dollars, however, the balance must be paid in Euros only. The total amount in Euros will be shown on your E-Ticket.
  
• Entrance fees are NOT included. Pompeii ruins entrance fee is 18 Euros per guest. This fee may vary slightly.
  
• We suggest you have cash (Euros) for the entrance fee, refreshments, excursion staff gratuities, shopping, etc.
• Sensible, rubber-soled walking shoes are highly recommended along with sun protection.
  
• Car seats are available for an additional 6 Euros fee to be paid on-site. Please let us know in advance to make the proper arrangements.
• As you may be visiting a religious or memorial site, shoulders and knees must be covered for men and women.
• Please pay attention to the restrictions and requirements for this excursion, if the shore excursion's requirements are not met, no refund will be granted.

Where we meet

For this Naples Private Pompeii, Sorrento, and Positano Excursion, you will meet your local driver/guide outside your Naples cruise port. All necessary details will be printed on your Electronic Shore Excursion Ticket.

Excursion Restrictions

• This excursion is not wheelchair accessible.
  
• Guests must be able to step in and out of the transportation.
  
• Guests must be able to walk for more than 2 hours on paved, gravel, and cobblestone surfaces, some on inclines.
• There are steps required to enter several of the sites as well as steep curbs in some areas.
  

Excursion FAQ

Cancellation

• Your ship arrives into port late and you cannot make it in time to the meeting location (we will verify with the tour operator).
• Your ship skips/misses the port.
• Weather conditions or equipment failure prevents the operator from running the excursion.
• A medical problem prevents you from safely participating in the excursion (we will verify with the excursion operator and the guest may send doctor's note). This applies to individuals only and not the remainder of the group.
  
• Cancellations/deposit refund requests that do not comply with the above may not be subject to refund.
• Refunds may be subject to a service charge fee as determined by the payment processor, please refer to Terms and Conditions for more information.
