Montenegro is a sovereign state in Southeastern Europe with a coastline consisting of 45 miles of beaches on the Adriatic Sea. With a complicated history, a varied topography, and architectural examples left behind from centuries of different powers, Montenegro has been listed by National Geographic as one of the 50 Places to visit.

Although very new as an independent country, it holds Romanesque, Gothic, and Baroque examples along with various religious influences. Catholic cathedrals and Turkish mosques mix with other examples of locations of worship. All this makes for wonderful sightseeing, and excursions are, typically, the best way to see what you are specifically interested in, and can be entertained with further information by a bilingual guide.

The climate varies depending on altitude, location, and season. At the beaches in July, it is quite warm, and in the mountains in December, skiing is the most popular activity. There really is quite a bit to choose from when visiting this newly formed country. Even the cuisine, for example, is based on influences from neighboring Croatia, Hungary, and the Orient.

Kotor is the major cruise port. Most of the major and many of the smaller cruise lines call into Kotor including Azamara, Windstar, Costa, Viking, MSC, NCL, AIDA, TUI, Princess, Oceania, Celebrity, Phoenix Reisen, Crystal, RCCL, Holland America, Fred Olsen, SeaDream, and Marella to just name some.

A visit to Montenegro is both exciting and fulfilling for everyone, there's just so much to choose from. Again, excursions are recommended to reach your area of interest, but, whatever you decide to do, you'll never forget a visit to Montenegro.
