Following a short taxi ride from your Cozumel cruise terminal, you will meet your friendly, English-speaking guide at a convenient meeting point. Your guide will help you select the correct bike for your body size making the necessary adjustments for a perfect fit. In addition to receiving both a safety jacket and mandatory helmet, you will receive basic operating and safety instructions prior to setting off on your journey. Once the preparation is complete you will head down Rafael Melgar Avenue, the road that runs along the waterfront, to Xel Ha Avenue which will lead to Corpus Christi Park and Church. Here you will learn about the role of public parks in Mexican culture and take some time to explore this gorgeous church.
Your electric bike makes riding a breeze even if it has been a while since you have been on a bike. With little peddling needed, just about anyone can have fun.
After the visit to the church, you will ride down to the Mercado (local marketplace). Here you will receive a brief tour of the interior, explaining the particulars of a local Mexican marketplace. You will have approximately 15 minutes to shop on your own to purchase handmade crafts, souvenirs, or various baked goods and candies. Next, you will be treated to a local, freshly prepared lunch choosing either tacos, sopes or panuchos (specialties of the Yucatan). You will receive bottled water, soda, or juice to accompany the meal, however, alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase.
After your meal, you will hop back on the bike and follow the road to the waterfront. Once you reach the boulevard street, you will the newly built Chapel that overlooks the ocean and continue on to the Grijalva Monument. Here you may climb the steps of the small pyramid as you learn about the discovery of the island and subsequent history. Juan de Grijalva was a Spanish conquistador that discovered the island of Cozumel in 1518 during a voyage to Cuba.
The last stage of the journey will make the short trek back down the waterfront to Mi Mexico Lindo where you will participate in a brief tequila tour, including an explanation of the tequila-making process and an opportunity to sample some local favorites.
At the end of this Cozumel shore excursion, you will ride back to the original meeting point and after returning your electronic bike, you may continue to explore or return to your Cozumel cruise ship terminal at your own expense.
The unique electric bike experience will make your trek around town enjoyable and memorable. If you prefer an active excursion at a relaxed pace with opportunities to learn and explore on your own, this is the one for you.
