See some of St. Kitts's diverse eco beauty on this unique nature walk. A hike in the lush rainforest, visit the Caribelle Batik workshop, and an optional beach break. This is an educational, informative, and eco-enlightening excursion.
Your English-speaking St. Kitts rainforest shore excursion guide will pick you up right outside your cruise terminal. Then you will board the comfortable vehicle which will take you on a 20-minute ride to Romney Manor in the Central Forest Reserve National Park. Depending on the size of the group, your transportation will either be an air-conditioned van or an open-air safari-style truck.
Romney Manor has a beautiful well-kept garden, an old sugar cane distillery, and the workshop of the Caribelle Batik company. You will have about 25 minutes to watch the artisans hand painting their designs and dyeing the fabric.
You will begin the rainforest hike at the nearby Wingfield Estate. The paths are shaded by tree canopies and the temperature remains comfortable for the hike. The trails themselves are smooth but there is an incline as they wind up the mountainside. The knowledgeable guide will point out some of the numerous varieties of plants, ferns, and orchids along the trails. Guests should watch for some of the various rare birds, butterflies, and elusive green vervet monkeys. Sample some of the tropical fruit grown in the rainforest. St. Kitts is one of the few places in the world where the rainforest has increased in size over the last 20 years.
The hike will take you next to a pretty, sparkling waterfall for a stop to enjoy the lush natural surroundings. Bring your camera! Sit back, and enjoy the provided bottled water and a light snack - guests will not be swimming at the falls.
After the hike, you have the choice to be dropped off at your cruise ship pier or opt to go for a beach break. The transportation will pick you up at the time you decide. At the beach, you can purchase food and drinks at one of the small restaurants; there are also beach activities and water sports available at your own cost. The transportation will then take you back to the pier.
The excursion duration is approximately 3 hours of hiking in the rainforest and 2 hours of beach break but can stay longer at the beach or choose to not go at all.
A fun hike in the Central Forest Reserve National Park, home of the Green Vervet Monkey and over 900 different rainforest plant species. Visit a waterfall and see some of the eco beauty followed by beach time on this St. Kitts Excursion!
