You will meet your guide at the City Map just outside the Old Town, near the Split cruise ship pier. After a brief introduction, you will start your guided walking tour through several of the best highlights of the port.
Your first stop will be the Diocletian Palace, one of the most important Roman ruins. Emperor Diocletian abdicated the throne in the 4th century and built the palace as a half-residence and half-military garrison. You will explore several levels of this fascinating UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Continuing your walking experience, you will head to the St. Dominus Cathedral, known for being the oldest Catholic cathedral in the world still in use in its original structure, without extensive renovations.
Follow your friendly and knowledgeable guide through cobblestone streets and learn about Split's history. You will visit the Temple of Jupiter, dedicated to the ancient Roman god Jupiter. Before the entrance to the Temple is one of the twelve sphinxes brought from Egypt by Emperor Diocletian. Have your camera ready to capture this magnificent monument, considered one of the most beautiful in Europe.
Next, your guide will take you to the statue of Bishop Grgur of Nin for some amazing photo opportunities. Grgur of Nin, one of the most beloved Croatian bishops, presided from approximately 900 to 929. He was famous for advocating the Old Croatian language, the national Glagolitic alphabet, and Glagolitic worship. Don’t miss the chance to touch his big toe, one of the 10 world symbols of good luck!
All great things must come to an end. Once the excursion is completed, you will return to your original meeting point. You are free to explore more of this incredible port or safely return to your cruise ship terminal for a perfect day ending.
Please note there is a considerable amount of walking on this excursion. Guests must be physically able to handle the moderate walking distance and wear comfortable walking shoes.
