Come with us for a fun day that includes a scenic ride, a covered boat ride on the Tortuguero Canal, and a real banana plantation. Costa Rica is the second largest banana producer in the world and there is much to see, learn, and taste on this adventure.
Start this great day by meeting with your guide right at your Puerto Limon cruise ship pier. You'll climb aboard a luxury motor coach for a 20-minute ride to the famous Tortuguero Canals. Then board a covered boat for a leisurely cruise down the jungle canals.
As you meander your way past lush tropical foliage your guide will explain the rainforest ecosystem and point out various interesting sights. You'll want to keep an eye out for the wildlife since it is quite common to spot howler monkeys, sloths, toucans, aquatic birds, bats, and crocodiles. Keep your camera ready to capture the sights.
After the boat has docked, you'll enjoy a snack of fresh tropical fruit before boarding your transportation again for the journey to the Del Monte Banana Plantation and Packing House. See the interesting work that is involved in bringing this fruit from Costa Rica all the way to your table. If you are on this excursion during the week you'll also have the opportunity to see the workers in the fields and hear about the importance of the banana to the local economy. Note that as the packing houses are private property, they are not part of the excursion.
Then, once this adventure comes to an end, you'll enjoy the scenic ride back and be brought back to your Puerto Limon cruise ship pier.
A fun way to see some of Costa Rica's natural beauty, with a scenic ride on the Tortuguero Canal and a visit to the Del Monte Banana Plantation.
