Departing from just alongside your Lahaina cruise ship tender dock less than a 3-minute walk, you will be checked in and welcomed aboard the semi-submarine by the experienced Captain and friendly crew. Once everyone is onboard, the boat will motor out to navigate 10 minutes along the coast of Lahaina to the barrier reef, which is just about a mile from the harbor.
You can stay up top for the trip to the reef, if you'd prefer, for lovely views of the coastline. Feel the salty air on your face as you pass by the colorful sights. Then, once you've arrived at the reef, you can take the 9 steps down into the air-conditioned "belly" of the semi-sub and be seated 9 feet (3 meters) below the surface with large viewing windows to see the reef itself.
At this point, divers will then enter the water and look for exotic sea life to bring closer to the viewing windows. Purely catch and release, but a wonderful way to see amazing creatures. You'll enjoy the colors of the reef itself, plentiful with colorful fish that dart in and around the coral. With seating for 34, there will be plenty of room to watch and learn as there will be entertaining narration by crew members to learn about the ocean's inhabitants. It is also quite common to spot sea turtles, and an octopus, or two. The semi-sub will be maneuvering so there is always a good view.
This Lahaina Semi Submarine Excursion is an hour long and you are welcome to go to the top deck for fresh air at any time you'd like. This is also great for families since one infant (5 years and under) per paying adult is free. Please note, if there is more than one infant per paying adult there will be an additional cost.
Once your time at the reef is finished, the semi-sub will return you to the pier by your Lahaina cruise ship tender dock. Be sure to bring your camera along, you won't want to miss these photo opportunities.
