See the highlights of Honolulu and Pearl Harbor! Highlights you will see during your driving orientation include the Iolani Palace, once home to the Hawaiian Monarchy, it is the only royal palace in the United States. Across the street from the palace is the gold-sheathed statue of King Kamehameha, who united the Hawaiian islands.
Considered one of the most beautiful national cemeteries in the U.S.A., the Punchbowl National Cemetery, sits within the Pu'owaina Crater, an extinct volcano. The cemetery was dedicated in 1949, on the fourth anniversary of V-J Day, and during your driving orientation through the cemetery, your guide will tell you more about its history.
Today, there are 11 military bases on Oahu, many of which were instrumental in helping to end WWII. Unfortunately, the best known of these was one of the main reasons we were in a war to begin with. On December 7, 1941 Japanese planes attacked Army, Air Force, Marine bases and specifically the Navy's Pacific fleet at Pearl Harbor. In total, 2388 men, women, and children were killed and 1200 more injured during the 90-minute attack. Almost half of the casualties took place on one battleship.
Upon arrival at the Pearl Harbor Visitor's Center, your guide will turn you over to the National Park Rangers. At the center, there is a 23-minute historical film with footage of the actual Pearl Harbor attack. When it is time, you will board a navy shuttle to reach the Arizona Memorial. The memorial is built over the hull of the sunken ship, which became the final resting place for 1070 of the 1,511-crew members on board. 334 survived and the remains of the 107 recovered were eventually buried at Punchbowl.
You will shuttle back to the Visitor's Center, where, if you did not have free time before visiting the Arizona, you will afterward. There is also a museum and gift shop to explore.
This excursion may be offered as an option on the last day of your cruise ending in Oahu. Good for those guests who are ending their cruise in Honolulu whether on a later flight or staying in a Honolulu hotel. Add more fun to your cruise with this disembarkation excursion that starts from your ship and ends at the airport for flights departing after 6:00 PM. It also will drop guests at central Waikiki Beach hotel/resort locations. Your luggage will be safely locked on the excursion bus. The excursion will stop at the nearby airport for guests with evening flights. From the airport, it will then proceed to several stops in the Waikiki Beach area. Your driver will let you know which stop is closest to your hotel.
Please Note: Pearl Harbor is an active military installation, and strict security measures are in place. Purses, handbags, fanny packs, backpacks, camera bags, diaper bags, luggage and/or other items that offer concealment are not allowed.
A Photo ID is required of all guests 16 years of age or older to enter Pearl Harbor. Guests under 16 should have a copy of their birth certificate.
Pearl Harbor, the National park and the Navy shuttle boats to the Arizona Memorial are operated by the US Navy and Parks Department. Shore Excursioneer and its partners have no control over them. Long lines are to be expected and delays do occur as the Arizona Memorial operates on a first come first served basis. Please see additional restrictions and notes.
